About Rocky Mountain Region High Performance Team
The RMR High Performance was selected as one of the first USA Triathlon High Performance Team grant recipients in 2007 and finished in 3rd place at USAT Youth National Championships in 2008. The team currently trains 23 athletes, ranging in age from 7 to 19.
The purpose of the team is to expose, train and retain athletes throughout the USAT development pipeline. Some will choose the elite ITU route and others will continue in the sport as non-elite, lifelong lifestyle athletes.
The team has a "Competitive" (entry level) and "High Performance" option for athletes on the team. Athletes must be 11 years old and have triathlon experience to participate in high performance training. High Performance Team practices five times/week while Competitive Team athletes practice three times/week.
The team is coached by Michelle Cox, with Alan Ley, sport development manager at the International Triathlon Union, serving as an expert advisor and coach. He is also the parent of one of the team members.
