One of the toughest jobs a parent will have is getting their sons/daughters to make healthy nutritional choices. Always follow your doctors or registered dietician’s recommendations if your child has special needs.
- Kids like colors: Red, yellow and green apples, yellow bananas, colorful fruit smoothies, orange carrots, green and purple grapes, orange oranges, red strawberries, blue blueberries, and all colors of yogurt and fruit drinks made with real fruit.
- Eggs are a great source of protein.
- Mix any vegetable with your eggs.
- Potatoes, celery with peanut butter, cherry tomatoes.
- Plant a garden with your child. I guarantee they will be eager to taste and try the real food they helped to grow.
- Cut foods in different shapes and into small bite sizes.
- Cereals like Frosted Mini Wheat’s, Health Valley and other alternative cereals that are high in whole grains and are good choices, not just for breakfast but anytime snacks, dry or with milk.
- Oatmeal is a great cereal especially with dark brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
- Apples with peanut butter.
- Applesauce, pears, or peaches mixed with cottage cheese.
- Kids need good fats like the types found in fish, nuts, and some vegetables.
- Don't make food or the dinner table a battleground.
- Encourage the kids to eat as much 'Real' food as possible. The harder the package is too open usually the worse the food is for you.
- Kids need - fresh air, a variety of real fresh foods, fresh water and real sunshine! And, they need ice cream and cookies at the right times!
- The best thing you can do for your child's nutrition is for you to set the example!
